The biomass boiler installed behind the YK Community Arena currently serves the Yellowknife Community Arena, Curling Club, and Ruth Inch Memorial Pool. The boiler has not been performing as expected.  The City is undertaking actions to restore performance in order to minimize heating costs and greenhouse gas emissions from its operations. The City of Yellowknife would like to confirm the condition of the fluid in all three heating loops by laboratory analysis, applying any glycol treatment indicated by the lab results.  In addition, if the lab results indicate degradation of some other component in the system this should be investigated and corrected to prevent future contamination.  Once this has been completed the City would like to have the existing heat exchangers replaced with new, as per design spec, to establish full system flow.
